Virginia Launch Reset for 3:11 AM EDT Monday, April 23rd
The commercial Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island, Va. has delayed the launch of the Minotaur-1 booster with the USAF Near Field Infrared Experiment (NFIRE) payload from Saturday to 3:11 a.m. (EDT), Monday, April 23, 2007. With good weather, the launch may be witnessed for hundreds of miles along the East Coast of the United States. NASA Wallops provides launch details. There will be no live webcast of the launch.
The second orbital launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in a nearly 4-month period, the launch customer is the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The NFIRE satellite payload will gather near field, high resolution phenomenology data that will assist in development of boost phase intercept systems. NFIRE will also assess the viability of a laser communications system for missile defense applications.
