President A PJ Abdul Kalam of India called this week for international cooperation to develop a hypersonic, reusable spacecraft with high efficency and low cost use. President Kalam says he wants to ensure a revolution in the space transportation industry.
"There is a need for all countries to work together to develop a single-stage-to-orbit, fully re-usable launch vehicles which can bring down the cost of the launch from the present USD 20,000 per kg of payload to USD 200 per kg," he said.
Kalam was speaking after inaugurating a two-day international conference on `high speed trans-atmospheric air and space transportation' in Hyderabad, India.
