50 Years in Space: October 4

October 4 will be the 50th anniversary of the launching of Sputnik. Readers are urged to mark the date and increase awarness of the importance of space exploration and space satellites to humanity. Dr. David Livingston's Space Show will hold a Special Sputnik Anniversary show with Dr. Roald Sagdeev [2004 audio sample].

Meanwhile, the Voyagers 1 and 2 spacecraft thirty years-on and now into their new Interstellar Mission continue to send data back to Earth. NPR provides a audio report. The Voyagers are expected to operate and communicate until 2020, perhaps beyond.
