Explorer-1 Golden Anniversary: 10:48 pm on January 31, 2008

The 50th anniversary of Explorer-1 officially launched from Cape Canveral at 10:48 pm on January 31, 1958 to mark the United States response to Sputnik-1. The booster placed America in the 'Race to Space' is marked here. Watch the LAUNCH from 1958 footage along with color background video.
