The European Space Agency will launch the IXV [Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle] onboard a new Vega booster rocket [Vega info] from the Kourou, French Guiana spaceport in 2012. The mission is essential to development of critical technologies for future robotic or manned spacecraft by testing brand-new European atmospheric re-entry technologies during its hypersonic and supersonic flight phases [Audio/Video by ESA*****].
