Space Shuttle Countdown Halted

The space shuttle Discovery countdown was halted today after the space flight launch team detected a hydrogen gas leak that could have been catastrophic at liftoff in a system that has previously delayed the mission to resume construction of the International Space Station. The shuttle was to launch tonight.

The federal space agency has until Monday, March 16, 2009 to send Discovery to the space station, otherwise the flight will have to be put off until April due to the long-planned launch of the Russian Soyuz TMA-14 rocket on a higher priority mission, with a fresh space station crew later this month.
