Scientist Provides Insight on Solar System Volcanoes as Redoubt Erupts in Alaska

Alaska's Mount Redoubt continues to erupt for the first time in twenty years while members of the Planetary Society were treated with expert analysis by prominent NASA JPL planetary geologist and vulcanologist Dr. Rosaly M. C. Lopes of the unusual event the past week in Alaska.

The author of books entitled Volcanic Worlds: Exploring The Solar System's Volcanoes (2004); The Volcano Adventure Guide (2005); Io After Galileo: A New View of Jupiter's Volcanic Moon (2006); and, Alien Volcanoes (2008), Dr. Lopes provided explanations and comparisons of volcanic activity on Earth, Mars, the Jovian moon Io and the Saturian moon Titan [2009 article] to some 44-members of an aurora expedition to Alaska.
