Spaceship Ride Through the Aurora Borealis

Spaceport Sweden has announced a partnership with Virgin Galactic to fly boosted Earth-to-space rides into the aurora borealis (polar lights) beginning in 2012, as expected for the past three years. The Ice Hotel Travel in JukkasjÀrvi, Sweden is among the five approved ticketing agents. Space tourists launching from Sweden will be able to chose whether to go through the winter season's aurora borealis or the midnight sun of Swedish summer [video of Ice Hotel].

There are commercial space advocates encouraging consideration of similar flights into the aurora borealis from northern Alaska sometime after 2012 [video of Virgin Galactic experience at Ice Hotel and video discussion of night flights into the aurora].
